OCU Hornbill (Part of the OCU Group) currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HV Jointer. As we continue to grow through 2024, this has provided us with an opportunity to grow and develop our team based in Neath.
You will be responsible for installing maintaining and repairing jointing and terminating of high and low voltage cabling systems working from technical drawings, support and carry out departmental Project work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out HV & LV Cabling works installation work efficiently in accordance with the National Working Rules for Electrical Contacting Industry and other relevant legislations.
- Ensure all work is installed in a safe manner that will not present harm or danger to others.
- Joint and Connect Cabling to circuit breakers, transformers or other components.
- Inspect HV&LV Cabling systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Conduct routine inspections and testing of high voltage cable systems to identify potential issues and ensure optimal performance.
- Utilize testing equipment to diagnose and troubleshoot faults, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines during all jointing and maintenance activities.
- Implement safety measures to protect personnel, equipment, and the surrounding environment.
- Maintain accurate records of all jointing activities, including diagrams, test results, and documentation of materials used.
- Generate reports detailing the status of cable systems and any recommended repairs or upgrades.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure seamless execution of jointing projects.
- Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders regarding project timelines, progress, and any potential issues.
Skill and Experience:
- Must have been a registered apprentice or undergone some equivalent method of training and have had practical training in electrical installation work.
- Must have obtained an NVQ Level 3 in electrical installation work.
- Must have had experience working as an Electrician.
- Communications skills, ability to interact with other skilled trade professionals, designers, and clients.
- Knowledge of national and local building codes.
- Knowledge of energy-efficient equipment and products.
- Use of testing equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to work well individually and as part of a team.
- Travel will be necessary.
- Proven experience in high voltage cable jointing and termination.
- Familiarity with a variety of cable types and jointing techniques.
- Competence in using testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
- Possession of relevant certifications for high voltage cable jointing and safety, as required by industry standards.
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in the electrical industry.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and other stakeholders.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues efficiently.
- Capacity to find innovative solutions to complex problems.
