HGV Hiab Driver

OCU Nettworx (Part of the wider OCU Group) are currently looking for a HGV Hiab Driver to join their team based in Newbury.
The HGV Hiab Driver will be responsible for operating heavy goods vehicles to transport goods and materials safely and efficiently to designated destinations. This role involves adhering to traffic laws and regulations, maintaining vehicle safety, and ensuring timely delivery of goods while providing excellent customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Vehicle Operation:
- Operate HGVs (e.g., lorries, Cranes and trucks) to transport goods and materials between locations, following designated routes and schedules.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety standards.
- Safely load and unload goods using appropriate equipment and securing methods, ensuring proper distribution of weight and balance.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all traffic laws, regulations, and driving guidelines, including speed limits, hours of service regulations, and tachograph requirements.
- Maintain a clean driving record and comply with company policies and procedures related to vehicle operation and safety.
- Report any accidents, incidents, or vehicle malfunctions promptly to management and follow proper procedures for documentation and resolution.
Customer Service:
- Interact with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner, always representing the company positively.
- Ensure accurate and timely delivery of goods, verifying quantities and specifications against delivery documents and obtaining signatures as required.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, logistics coordinators, and other team members to coordinate deliveries and resolve any issues or delays.
Vehicle Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on the vehicle, such as checking fluid levels, inspecting tires, and cleaning the interior and exterior.
- Report any mechanical issues or defects to the appropriate personnel and follow instructions for repair or maintenance procedures.
Skills and Experience:
- Valid HGV Class C or Class CE driving license.
- Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification.
- Previous experience as an HGV Hiab driver.
- Good understanding of road safety regulations, vehicle maintenance, and safe driving practices.
- Excellent navigational skills and the ability to read and interpret maps, GPS systems, and delivery instructions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
Additional Requirements:
- Physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of long hours of driving and manual labour associated with loading and unloading goods.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as required by operational needs.
- Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing as per company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service in all aspects of the job.
