Senior SHEQ Advisor
AS OCU continues on a journey of substantial growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior SHEQ Advisor to come and join us based in Eggborough!
The Senior SHEQ Advisor is responsible for developing and managing SHEQ strategies, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement. The Senior SHEQ Advisor provides expert guidance and support to the operational teams and plays a key role in managing SHEQ-related risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement SHEQ strategies in line with the company’s objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the continuous improvement of SHEQ management systems, ensuring they meet ISO standards
- Provide leadership and direction to SHEQ Advisors and other team members, ensuring effective implementation of SHEQ policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of sites and operations to identify and mitigate risks.
- Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
- Develop and maintain risk assessments, safe systems of work, and method statements.
- Design and deliver SHEQ training programs to staff and contractors, ensuring they are aware of their responsibilities.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to SHEQ team members and operational staff.
- Promote sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and carbon footprint reduction.
- Monitor environmental performance and report on key metrics to senior management.
- Lead quality audits and ensure non-conformities are addressed and corrective actions are implemented.
- Prepare and present SHEQ performance reports to senior management.
- Liaise with external bodies, including regulatory agencies, auditors, and industry groups, on SHEQ matters.
- Manage and oversee SHEQ-related projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
What we are looking for:
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification in occupational health and safety.
- Proven experience as a health and safety advisor or specialist, preferably in a similar industry or sector.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards applicable to the UK.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on practical solutions and risk-based approaches.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH, IIRSM) is desirable.
