Role Overview
As a Senior Project Engineer, you will be responsible for leading engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring technical excellence, adherence to specifications, and successful delivery within scope, schedule, and budget. As a senior member of the technical services team, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating project activities, managing resources, and providing technical expertise to drive project success and exceed client expectations. You will be responsible for managing, mentoring and developing other members of the engineering team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Project Planning and Execution:
- Develop detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk management strategies, in collaboration with stakeholders and project teams.
- Lead project execution, overseeing engineering activities, monitoring progress, and addressing technical challenges to ensure project milestones are achieved and deliverables meet quality standards.
Technical Expertise:
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to project teams, offering expertise in engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices to support the successful delivery of projects.
- Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations, ensuring compliance with standards, regulations, and client requirements.
Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, internal teams, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, facilitating communication, resolving technical issues, and maintaining alignment with project objectives.
- Conduct regular stakeholder meetings, progress updates, and technical reviews to provide transparency, address concerns, and ensure project requirements are met.
Resource Management:
- Manage project resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to optimize utilisation, minimise costs, and maximize efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with resource managers and functional leads to ensure adequate staffing levels and skill sets are available to meet project requirements.
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and technical challenges, developing proactive risk mitigation plans and contingency strategies to minimize disruptions and ensure project success.
- Monitor project performance indicators and technical metrics, proactively addressing deviations from plan and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Quality Assurance and Control:
- Establish and enforce quality assurance processes and procedures to ensure engineering deliverables meet quality standards, client requirements, and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular quality inspections, technical audits, and design reviews to assess compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of engineering activities, including design documentation, technical specifications, progress reports, and project correspondence, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and accessibility as required.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables to communicate project status, achievements, and recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.
Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a Project Engineer or similar role, with a focus on managing engineering projects in sectors such as construction, infrastructure, or manufacturing.
- Strong technical background in engineering disciplines relevant to the project scope, such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or structural engineering.
- Excellent leadership and project management skills, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, drive technical excellence, and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels and resolve technical issues diplomatically.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyse complex problems, make data-driven decisions, and develop innovative solutions to achieve project objectives.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools relevant to the project scope, with experience in design, analysis, and simulation.
- Degree in engineering or a related field is essential, with postgraduate qualifications or professional certifications being advantageous.
- Previous experience in client-facing roles and managing client relationships is desirable.
