Authorising Engineer
About the Role
Are you a seasoned electrical professional with a passion for safety, compliance, and leadership?
We’re looking for a highly skilled Electrical Authorising Engineer (AE) to take charge of electrical safety and compliance across our non-regulated business units.
In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure the safe operation, maintenance, and control of HV/LV electrical systems. You’ll also be responsible for appointing and auditing electrical personnel, reviewing safety documentation, and providing expert technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the appointed AE for non-regulated business units.
- Review and approve electrical safety procedures, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Audit and assess the competence of APs, SAPs, and CPs.
- Ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and BS 7671.
- Provide expert advice on electrical safety, design, and operations.
- Lead or support investigations into electrical incidents.
- Maintain and update Electrical Safety Rules and documentation.
- Liaise with contractors and internal teams to ensure safe operations.
- Deliver training and mentoring to electrical staff.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).
- Extensive HV/LV systems experience.
- Recognised HV Authorising Engineer training.
- Strong knowledge of electrical legislation and standards.
- Excellent auditing, documentation, and leadership skills.
Desirable:
- Membership of a professional body (e.g., IET).
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
