Site Engineer (Utilities)
Role Overview
The Site Engineer plays a key role in the delivery of construction and civil engineering projects. The role involves overseeing and managing day-to-day site operations, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while meeting quality standards.
This is a CIS/self employed opportunity and applications are welcome from anyone within the Scotland region that has proven experience within a civil engineering/site engineering background and au fait using AutoCAD software. Successful candidates must be willing to travel to sites across Scotland. A company van is supplied to support this.
Duties and Responsibilities
Site Management and Supervision
- Oversee all site activities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Manage and supervise subcontractors and direct labour on site.
- Ensure work is carried out as per design specifications, drawings, and project plans.
Setting Out and Surveying
- Perform setting out for various works, including foundations, structures, roads, and utilities.
- Use equipment such as total stations, GPS systems, and laser levels to ensure accuracy.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and other professionals to plan project phases.
- Monitor progress and resolve technical issues or unexpected challenges on-site.
- Liaise with local authorities, clients, and stakeholders as required.
Quality Control and Documentation
- Conduct site inspections to ensure work adheres to quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of site work, including reports, schedules, and progress updates.
- Prepare and manage risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
Health and Safety Compliance
- Promote and enforce a strong health and safety culture on-site.
- Identify potential risks and implement preventative measures.
Materials and Resource Management
- Order and manage materials, equipment, and tools effectively.
- Ensure resources are used efficiently to avoid delays and unnecessary costs.
Skills and Experience:
Education: Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Professional Certification: Membership or working towards membership with ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers) or relevant bodies.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in setting out, surveying, and interpreting technical drawings.
- Experience using software like AutoCAD, MS Project, and relevant surveying tools.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve challenges efficiently under pressure.
Driving Licence: A valid UK driving licence is often required for site visits.
