Mechanical Fitter
A Water Industry Mechanical Fitter is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems within water and wastewater infrastructure. This includes working on pipes, pumps, valves, and associated equipment in line with technical drawings, specifications, and strict safety regulations.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Installation & Fabrication:
Install and assemble pipes, valves, pumps, and other mechanical equipment for water and wastewater systems, potentially fabricating components as needed.
Fault Finding:
Diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical equipment and fluid power systems using specialised tools and diagnostic techniques to identify and resolve issues.
Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all work complies with company and industry health and safety regulations, particularly in potentially hazardous environments like confined spaces.
Teamwork:
Collaborate with engineers and project managers to meet specifications and work as part of a mechanical and electrical team.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Technical Proficiency:
Hands-on experience in mechanical fitting, preferably within the water or utilities sector, with skills in pumps, pipework, and gearboxes.
Tool Usage:
Competence in using a range of hand and power tools for assembly and maintenance tasks.
Mechanical Knowledge:
Experience with various mechanical systems, including pumps, pipework, and fluid power equipment.
Safety & Certifications:
Qualification in Mechanical field.
CSCS or equivalent safety card.
Knowledge or training in water hygiene.
Confined space training.

Strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and a good level of physical fitness.

Working on new installations and upgrades of water supply and wastewater pipelines.
Treatment Plants & Facilities:
